Bob Zehmisch

Pittsburgh artist Bob Zehmisch has been drawing, well, forever. He received a B.F.A. in Painting from Slippery Rock University in 1990, and is currently attending Carlow University for Art Education certification (K-12). He currently teaches a children’s clay class at the Braddock Library Ceramics Studio.

Bob has been working from the figure for 22 years. His drawings are a cross between drawing and painting, using gesture and contour line. They are made with a bamboo brush, ink wash and oil stick and pencil, preferably a no. 2 Ticonderoga.

He employs friends to model. They are dancers, actors, yoga practitioners and a teacher of Alexander technique. Each individual lends a unique energy to the artwork.

He draws as often as possible. Drawing feels best to him when he is consistently working. He draws because there is always something to learn about the figure. His work is about balance, movement, the shapes a body makes, as well as its relationship to the space around it.
