"Jesus Loves Ink" by Lex Covato

Lex Covato at Friday, October 1 at <C> SPACE : COLLECTIVE, from 7-10pm

Alexis Covato a.k.a LEX is a gallery painter as well as commercial illustrator.  She studied Illustration at Columbus College of Art and Design as well as Painting and Art History at Chatham College.  LEX creates illustrations for magazines, advertising agencies, and private collectors. She was recently included in an art book covering Neo-Pop  entitled “EdgyCute”, available through Random House.

Regardless of the client or venue certain aspects of LEX’s work remain consistent; an abstract stylization of the figure, painterly brush stroke, and fluid line-work.  Her paintings often references history, religions, and popular culture while exploring how humans find purpose.  LEX’s paintings harkens an otherworldly quality, which is inspired by her love of Byzantine Icons, German Expressionism, Surrealism.  Though conceptually weighty these images are often darkly humorous with a kitchy flare.  She juxtaposes innocence and horror, divinity and obscenity, and beauty with oddity.
